Summary of the bris ceremony performed
by Dr. Dobrusin.
- The ceremony begins with the kvater carrying the baby into the room and handing the baby to the sandak. The sandak then hands the baby to Dr. Dobrusin. Dr. Dobrusin introduces the baby with the words "Baruch Haba" which means "Blessed be he whom we now welcome."
- If the parents wish, they may speak about the bris ceremony. Parents frequently will welcome the guests as well as explain how they arrived at the baby's name.
- At the beginning of the service, the parents and
Dr. Dobrusin say prayers regarding the Brit Milah Ceremony.
- If the grandparents want, they may say the grandparents’ prayer saying that they are grateful to have the opportunity to be at his ceremony.
- Dr. Dobrusin will perform the blessing before the circumcision.
- The actual circumcision will be performed; if people are not interested in directly observing this part of the ceremony, they certainly may leave the room at this point.
- The parents say a prayer after the circumcision welcoming the baby into the Covenant of Abraham, our Father.
- The naming ceremony will include saying the baby's new English name as well as his Hebrew name.
- A prayer for the health and recovery of the child follows.
- The blessing of the child will be performed.
- The parents say a concluding prayer.
- The guests and family wish the parents and child a hardy Mazel Tov!
